Beautiful Bottoms ~ Then and Now

by Shirley Freeman

From the very practical to the glamorous and sexy, undies haven’t really radically changed though the years. Panties, bloomers, knickers, skivvies, briefs, thongs, girdles, smoothers and unmentionables… whatever they’re called, women have had a love affair with the coverings of their beautiful bottoms for decades.

Were these perhaps the first thong? Roger Schaal Diana lingerie – Paris c.1925, and today, Mimi Holliday Bisou Bisou Pearl Lace Bow Thong compares nicely.

In 1954 Vantity Fair introduced these zebra print panties. A more modern version of exotic animal print panties are Hanky Panky’s one-size thong in an exotic zebra print.

Sexy, lace black tap pants from 1940 (source Poly Morph). From Dollhouse Bettie comes a modern take with soft, satin tap pants from What Katie Did.

Smooting and bulges with a girdle were the norm in the 40s – shown is the ‘Whittle Waist’ Girdle. Now a more comfortable and technically perfected version is Rago’s 1359 Black Shapette Six Garter Girdle (Dollhouse Bettie).
